Card Payment Terminals

Terminal rental is one of the easiest charges to overpay on, often locked into a separate long agreement from the card processing itself. We look at both together.

Common problems we see

  • Terminal rental running long after the hardware was paid for
  • Separate contracts for the machine and the processing
  • Portable terminals that don't suit table or delivery service

What helps us most

  • A recent merchant statement
  • Your terminal rental agreement, if you have it

Haven't got it to hand? Send what you have — we'll chase the rest.

Also covered

What we look at

  • Countertop, portable and mobile terminals
  • Terminal rental terms and how long they still have to run
  • EPOS and till integration, so the terminal talks to your till
  • Processing and terminal agreements reviewed together, not separately

Before you sign

Things worth checking on a card payments agreement

Not every provider charges all of these, and some are perfectly reasonable. The point is knowing which apply to you before you sign.

  • How long the contract runs, and whether the terminal is on a separate agreement
  • The transaction rates, and whether they differ by card type
  • Terminal rental, and what happens at the end of the term
  • Platform, gateway, service or account management charges
  • Auto-renewal clauses and the notice period attached to them
  • Minimum monthly charges, PCI fees and authorisation fees
  • Early termination charges if you move provider

In their words

What business owners say about working with us.

My wife and I opened a new cocktails and wine bar and we needed a POS system to run the till and integrate with the card payment terminal. We looked at various options but decided to give our business to Energy Saving Guru, who like us are based in Renfrew. We met Scott, who owns the company, and found him to be very knowledgeable, professional and most of all very helpful. He has on several occasions jumped to our aid when there has been an issue with our system. There cannot be many other people who will come out to help you on a Friday night at 9pm, but Scott did. We would gladly recommend Scott and his company to anyone.

While we're at it

Already reviewing your card payments?

We can check your other business costs at the same time — it's the same phone call and the same free review.

Ask us to review your card payments

Free, no obligation, and no need to know your rates.

What would you like us to review?

Pick as many as you like — most businesses have more than one worth checking.

While we're at it, would you like us to check anything else? Adding a service costs you nothing and usually saves another phone call later.

Upload your bill or contract

PDFs or photos are both fine. Send what you have — we'll work out the rest.

Free, no obligation. We never sell your details.
