Business utility renewal checklist
Eight checks that stop the two most expensive habits in business utilities: missed notice periods and unchallenged invoices. Print it, pin it up, work through it.
- 1List every utility contract: electricity, gas, water, waste, broadband, phones, mobiles, card processing and terminal rental.
- 2Record the end date and notice period for each — they're rarely the same.
- 3Diarise a review point at least three months before each end date.
- 4Keep a recent bill for every meter and account in one place.
- 5Check each invoice against the contracted rates before paying it.
- 6Give actual meter readings regularly so bills aren't estimated.
- 7Never let a contract end without a decision — out-of-contract and rollover rates are almost always worse.
- 8Before signing anything new, check the term length, auto-renewal clause and early exit charges.
