If you're a business owner looking to save money on your energy bills, the Energy Bill Discount Scheme (EBDS) could be just what you need. This scheme is available to all businesses, including charities and public sector organizations, regardless of sector.
The EBDS replaces the relief scheme that was in place for six months and is now available for 12 months from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024. Eligibility criteria applies to fixed-price contracts that have been agreed on or after 1 December 2021, on all new fixed-price contracts, and out-of-contract rates.
Under the new scheme, businesses will automatically receive a discount on their energy bill when wholesale contract prices exceed a certain threshold. Unlike the previous scheme, there will be a maximum discount a business can receive. The discount will be applied by your supplier, so there's no need to apply separately.
For electricity, the maximum discount available is £19.61 per megawatt-hour (MWh), with a price threshold of £302 per MWh. For gas, the maximum discount available is £6.97 per MWh with a price threshold of £107 per MWh.
